Surely a big step back in the world of OS\\’s – Not a matter of getting used to something different, XP just stands in your way and won\\’t move….Been using XP for a week and will revert to 98 as soon as I get my hands on a set of disks because it is invasive, it\\’s bulky, it doesn\\’t seem able to handle large folders well (highly unstable it seems; I\\’ve had to break up two folders into five just to not have it crash when I open them) and it\\’s just plain ugly……
This program is made for people who have never used a computer before and can\\’t imagine using one for anything but chatting on AOL. (which Xp would be perfectly fine for, but no grand advance over 98)
Unlike past editions, XP guides you ad nauseum through everything and then restricts the extent to which you can use any program but Microsoft\\’s or a sponsor\\’s.(i.e, double-click a photgraph and it\\’s opened by Windows Picture Viewer regardless of association; to open with anything but you must do so manually) If you ever wondered what the government had against Microsoft, use XP and see firsthand. I can\\’t imagine anyone with a speck of intelligence or human dignity not being insulted by using XP and becoming disgusted with Microsoft as a result.

My mom first baught a Dell laptop in 2001 and she couldn't have been happier. She upgraded to an all-in-one desktop fax, printer, scanner, and copier. After installing the drivers for that thing and the software that came with it, she did start to have problems. Recently she upgraded to Windows 2000 Proffesional on her old Gateway desktop and she had some problems with the printing between both machines, but I think other then that she has no complaints.

I have only experience in using Windows 98:SE, Windows 2000 Proffesional and Windows XP Proffesional. If I would complain about anything its how much you guys probably don't know or understand about your computers. I may not know you guys but after reading your complaints about Windows XP Home Edition, I know for a fact that half of your problems were because none of your old software was compatible with your new OS. I don't know how poorly built your computers are but, if your computer freezes up when you are using Windows XP its because you need to upgrade your system memory big-time. Also it wouldn't kill you guys to go online and get the updates before you start cussing out Microsoft.

I have three gaming buddies online that say they couldn't be happier with Windows XP, although I'm sure they use Proffesional.

Bottom line; This OS is not for people who are new to computers. This OS is a system memory hog and probably not meant for older system specifications. This OS is not a suggestable gaming platform. This OS is for at home users who are into web design, programing and other such career fields. This OS is good for managing databases of movies, songs, and photos. This OS is good for easy formating of a hard drive. This OS is not very compatible with earlier softwares from before 2001. This OS works good with anti-virus software namely Nortin Anti-Virus 2004. This OS works well with small networks.
Pro : Works for almost all recent applications that have been released since 2001. Fast, reliable and easy to format hard drives.
Con : System memory hog, does have trouble with third party programs that aren't built for this OS. Not really a must have for gamers, may cause video card and sound card problems in-game, but in most problems it only requires an update of the drivers.

It immediately rendered my modem, video card, cd-burner, audio card & video editor useless. What still does run seems sluggish. I had to install it twice because it didn\\’t install properly the first time. Weird thing is the software knew it was corrupt but chose not to tell me until I tried to set it up to go back to 98SE. I\\’ve found no additions in XP that I like or even want other than the ability to record video files that exceed 4 gigs. (a limitation found only on Microsoft operating systems). I bought a new modem just so I could “activate” this OS before the 30 day deadline. My computer is only 2 years old, and I\\’ll end up paying about $300 just to get back all the capabilities I had with 98SE. Add that to the $90 XP price and that\\’s close to $400 just to overcome the 4 gig cap. I really should have bought a Mac.

Xp is Windows 2000, with alot of eye candy and not much else than 2000. Millenium is the same situation. It\\’s 98 with a few cosmetics. Just another money maker for Microsoft, and they make everyone believe that it can greatly improve performance. Its loaded with features that are loaded into the memory and take away your resorces.

windows xp as an ops system is no good a bit like buying a jigsaw from a boot sale it has pieces missing it will not detect most graphic and sound cards the repair process is awkward to use technical support is no good and should you be lucky to get it working it dumps finds loads of errors and nags worse than a wife
draw backs: are to expensive no manuals at all apart for the bog standard intro and i mean bog standard as it reminds me of the paper i used to wipe my bum on at school the disc is outdated as soon as you get it and has to be updated straight away the id code is to long the registration and activation is long winded there are no decoders for dvd rom players windows media locks up between records when your on the internet it doesnt recognise adsl modems lcd monitors and if you install a second harddrive it wont detect it having to fiddle your way through the clumsy admin to get it acknowledged and when you do it loses your harddrive again no its clumsy its messy its tacky and to dear i say bring back ms dos then add the tinseltown hollywood glam bits of windows as it used to be in the old days when you didnt have to agree to contracts before youd tried it a bit like taking a brand new car for its mot before youve actually driven it
