How To Create That Perfect Transitional Room

Author: admin  /  Category: curtain fabrics

Transitional design is a brilliant new take on an old thought. The combination of contemporary and traditional is fast becoming the decorating style of choice for many who are ready for a change. Embracing the comfort of traditional design with the stylish looks of contemporary design, consider pairing traditional-looking furnishing with contemporary fabrics like ultrasuede or chenille.

Since the 1950s, the influence of cutting-edge interior design has been so far-reaching that it has impacted the evolution of virtually every decor style. The emerging popularity of transitional decor over the course of the last several decades is a testament to the strong influence of contemporary interiors.

Transitional decorating represents a kind of compromise between contemporary and traditional decor, a halfway point in which the subtle elegance of contemporary styles meets the comfort and familiarity of traditional styles.

There are many different interpretations of transitional decorating, but all of them share in common the aesthetic compromise that draws on both contemporary and traditional inspirations. Typically, transitional interiors boast the neutral palettes and understated elegance of contemporary decor, while eschewing the bolder, more avant-garde elements of contemporary style.

Similarly, some of the sleek lines and stark minimalism that define contemporary decor are replaced by the gentle curves, coziness, comfort, and lived in appeal of traditional decor in the transitional interior.

The styling, accessories, and WINDOW TREATMENTS of transitional interiors reflect a similar marriage of the contemporary and traditional aesthetic sensibilities. window treatments are straightforward, but may incorporate blinds and a lightweight curtain.

However, the heavy drapes that are common in traditional interiors are usually avoided. The more unusual, eccentric art and accent pieces that define contemporary style are likely to be passed over in favor of accessible but up-to-date pieces, although the ornate styles of traditional interiors are not often found in transitional decor.

Against backdrop of the largely neutral palette that is typical of a transitional room, natural fibers and textured fabrics lend interest and depth. However, the bold contrasts and monochromatic color schemes of contemporary decor are not typical in transitional rooms.

Instead, a toned down version of the rich jewel tones seen in traditional rooms is more readily adaptable to the transitional interior. If you are drawn to elements of contemporary and traditional decor, the hybrid approach to interior design offered by transitional decorating may represent a happy medium that works well for you and your home.

Interior Curtain Design

Author: admin  /  Category: curtain fabrics

Think of drapes as the finishing touch to any room in your home. A decorated room seems incomplete without them. The right ones can bring a room together, as well as set the mood.

Some questions to ask yourself while shopping for window coverings include:

1) What rooms am I buying for?

2) What are my goals? (To match bedding, cheaply maintain privacy, complete an interior decorating project, etc,)

3) What is my budget?

You can better plan for the perfect window treatments if you know the answer to these questions. If you’re shopping for a child’s room, you’ll look for something completely different than if you’re searching for something to complete the look of a formal dining room. If you’re just looking to cover a window to keep out light or neighbors’ prying eyes, you’ll choose differently than if you’d like to make a statement in your formal living room. If you’re on a tight budget, you might find yourself choosing a less-expensive covering, thereby changing the entire look and feel of the room.

Depending on your goals, you’ll find light cotton to heavy damask fringed materials and everything in between. You can select solid colors, or fabrics with cartoon characters on them. The point is, the color, texture, print and style of the material bring character and personality to a room.

With such a wide selection of window covering options available, you should be able to find a few to fit your needs. If you don’t, and you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your own. This way, you get exactly what you want. This is also a reasonable choice when you have window sizes that are not standard. Or you might have bedding you just love, but it’s been discontinued but you want to match your WINDOW TREATMENTS to it. Or if you’re interested in a unique curtain design you can’t find in the stores. Fabric stores carry miles of materials to make your own window coverings that reflect your own personal style. Even better, you can find patterns, ideas and general information in-store to help you. You don’t even have to be a pro to complete a project like this.

Whether you choose store-bought covering or those of your own creation, you can be sure that whatever you hang on your windows will have your signature on it.

Inexpensive Home Interiors With Discount Fabrics

Author: admin  /  Category: curtain fabrics

When you’re on a tight budget but want to redecorate your home, you can still do so when you make the right choices. Discount fabrics will allow home owners to decorate their homes without spending too much. Aside from decorating, these fabrics can be used for many other ideas. Since drapery fabrics are usually quite heavy, they can be used for slipcovers, throw pillows, and duvet covers, to name a few. There are indeed lots of creative ways to use discount fabric.

You can create pretty decorative pieces even without sewing. For instance, you might try folding the fabric in an accordion-like style, and then create a beautiful jabot curtain by draping and feeding it through sconces and rings on the wall. Putting a tack in the middle of a drooping curtain will fix that in a jiffy. You can also use adhesive strips to create beautiful décor without sewing. It can be ironed onto the back of the fabric you’re using, so that it will hold two pieces together or even stick the fabric itself to the wall or another surface. Make sure to check first if the adhesive strips you use are washable or not. If you are using non-washable fabrics, this may not be important, but if you wash your curtains, it’s going to be a big deal.

If you prefer sewing, then you have lots more of great options. Novice sewers to experts can use a particular kind of sewing that makes good use of discount fabrics. Solid fabrics or ones with simple designs should be suitable for beginners, since stripes or plaids usually make it difficult for novices to match them properly. You want to have a professional look and feel to your work, not just home-made. Using tone-on-tone fabrics, where the colors are the same on both the pattern and the background, will allow you to get a patterned appearance. This kind of pattern has more allowances for mistakes.

You can also make pillows and table runners with your discount fabrics. Like I said a while ago, the heaviness of these fabrics makes them ideal for a lot of uses, not just curtains. A foam pillow with a drapery fabric slip over it will work great on your bed. If you want, you can put zippers for easier removal and cleaning. And speaking about cleaning, you can easily spot-clean these kinds of fabrics, so you don’t have to go to the cleaners.

If you’re a beginner sewer, making table runners with discount fabrics will be easy for you. Just put a backing of plain material, add some fringe or beading on the ends of the cloth, and voila! You have a lovely decorative piece for your home. Save money on bedspreads and bedroom décor by making duvet covers. If you use the same fabric, you can also make pillows and curtains to match. This is really an affordable technique that also allows you lots of leeway in decorating. Using discount fabrics will definitely let you mix and match colors and prints for your personal decorative purposes.
